When a day at work is as fun as this, it’d be a shame not to share it!
One of the best things about working in stewardship for Texas Land Conservancy is that a huge part of our jobs is going out to visit the properties that TLC has protected. Every year, TLC stewardship staff visit every property, meet with landowners, and make sure the property is complying with the conservation restrictions that are on it. Most years this involves visiting around 170 properties all over the state. No surprise, this year was a little different! After suspending all site visits in March, we, like most everyone, had to think about things a little bit differently. Over the summer, we developed protocols to visit properties safely and also determined that some of our properties could not be visited safely this year. We could not ignore the risks to our staff or other individuals we would encounter traveling throughout the state and found ways to use remote imagery and other technology to survey these properties without actually traveling to them. This year has definitely taught all of us how to use technology in new ways! While we haven’t been able to get our boots on the ground for every property this year, we have been able to visit the majority of them. Here are some of our favorite things we’ve seen and enjoyed this year on properties that are permanently protected for future generations of Texans!
