40TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT: Home on the Range at Leo Ranch

  • Leo Ranch 5190 County Road 398 Decatur, TX, 76234 (map)

Join TLC and our partners for an open preserve day at the Dixon Water Foundation’s Leo Ranch in North Texas. Guided hikes and family-friendly activities will highlight the native tallgrass prairie, sustainable range management, and the ranch’s Clint Josey Pavilion – the first Living Building designated in Texas. It was designed to create its own energy from the sun, collect water from its immediate environment, and create habitat for other species.

Education & Activities - Learn about the Clint Josey Pavilion and hear from members of the Texas Master Naturalist, Elm Fork Chapter and other nonprofit partners who are working towards conservation in North Texas.

Guided Hikes - Join Dixon Water Foundation staff and naturalists as we take a short walk out across the prairie to the Dutch-Oven Demonstration Area for light bites. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to see what native plants are found on the prairie and how the Leo Ranch uses cattle and sheep grazing as a tool for sustainable range management.

Food on the Range - See how food was (and still can be) prepared over the open fire with light bites provided by our partners from the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society.

Refreshments provided! We recommend long pants, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Please bring a refillable water bottle. Thank you for leaving your pets at home.
