Join the Indian Trails Master Naturalists at Kachina Prairie for volunteer work days throughout the year. Work days will focus on woody species management to maintain a grassland condition. Please wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment (close-toed shoes, gloves, long-sleeves and pants) and don’t forget your sunscreen and bugspray. Bring loppers or handsaws if you have them.
Kachina Prairie is a rare patch of undisturbed (never tilled or plowed) blackland prairie full of native grasses and flowers. This 30 acre nature preserve was set aside by the city of Ennis in 1966 and is maintained with help from the Indian Trail Master Naturalists. Texas Land Conservancy has held an easement since 1985.
