With the start of a new year, our stewardship staff is gearing up for another trip around Texas. In case we haven’t met yet….
Here at Texas Land Conservancy, we pride ourselves in being a state-wide land trust. That means from the Red River to the Rio Grande, from Beaumont to El Paso, we are working with landowners all over this great state to conserve valuable natural areas and wildlife habitat. Conservation easements—legal agreements where a land owner voluntarily agrees to restrict the type and amount of development that may take place on his/her property—are our primary conservation tool, though, we do own several natural areas and preserves that are open to the public.
Stephen and I have the job of visiting every property protected by TLC at least once a year. We meet with landowners, tour their properties, and ensure that these natural areas stay that way. I would argue that we have the best job in state!
TLC has over 120 properties to visit each year, so Stephen and I split up who is going where at the beginning of the year (see the cool map Stephen made for us!) and this week we started our adventures (maybe you’ve seen Stephen’s stories on Instagram)!
From the East Texas Pineywoods to the Trans-Pecos Desert, we’ll be traveling around Texas and would like to have you tag along with us. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook, and look for more #TLCTagAlong blog posts as we show you first-hand what it looks like to protect the nature of Texas!
See y’all soon,
Ellen (and Stephen)
