Did you know that August 26, is National Dog Day? It feels like there are so many obscure holidays that it’s hard to keep up with! Don’t get me wrong, I will use any excuse I can get to celebrate with margaritas, tacos, or even Star Wars, but if you have a dog, National Dog Day seems like one that you just can’t pass up.
So, what can you do to mark the day with your four-legged friend? Maybe you’d like to take the time to finally try out that recipe for homemade pupcakes, buy them a stylish new bandana, or just spend the day together doing something fun! TLC can help with that…
At Texas Land Conservancy, we’d like to invite you to celebrate National Dog Day by helping us take over social media with pictures of our Tails on Trails! Just take a picture with your pup on your favorite trail and tag Texas Land Conservancy on Facebook or Instagram and/or use the hashtag #TLCTailsOnTrails. You can also email pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wherever you like to take your pup – your favorite state park or local green space, maybe the Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail (Austin) or the Anthills at Terry Hershey Park (Houston) – just get outside and show everyone how much we love to get our tails out on those trails!
If you live in Dallas, let me suggest TLC’s Oak Cliff Nature Preserve! OCNP is 121 acres of rolling woodlands and wildflower meadows with 8 miles of hike and bike trails right in the heart of the Oak Cliff neighborhood. It has been voted the Best Hiking Trail by the Dallas Observer, and it’s just secluded enough that you forget you’re in the city. Bring water since there are no facilities, and check out our online trail map (bit.ly/ocnp) before you go!
And to my fellow cat lovers and their feline friends, have you heard of Adventure Cats? National Cat Day is October 29!
